This stunning barn conversion project is probably one of our favourites and the clients themselves are pretty interesting too! It was created to be used as a filming studio for the cooking programme ‘Farming in The Wild’, which is all about hunting as a sustainable way of gathering wild food, so the barn needed to reflect this.
The clients already had the timber frame structure in place, however they requested our assistance in adding the roof, cladding and the internal fittings and fixtures. JMW installed the roof which is made of insulated tin panels, and the cladding to the outside and the interior, which is all reclaimed wood in keeping with the rustic theme. It is insulated with Actis insulation, made from recycled materials to further fit with the sustainability aspect.
To the interior, we installed a wood-burning stove, bathroom with freestanding bath below a Velux window and a gorgeous open-plan kitchen, which mixes the modern with the traditional in its combination of wooden counters and stainless steel appliances.
It was really important to the clients that this be a multifunctional space; they needed to be able to open the building up to the outside for both filming and entertaining, to create a professional party atmosphere, so we installed bifold doors to the kitchen, creating a brilliant ‘inside out’ space.
The clients were thrilled with our work, and continue to come back to JMW time and again for other projects that they have.
