How we handle your barn conversion project

When we start working on your barn conversion, we’ll ask you a few simple questions:

  • Have you engaged an architect?
  • Have you involved a structural engineer?
  • Do you have planning permission?

If you’re not quite at this stage, we can refer you to one of our trusted associates. We work closely with architects and structural engineers who create plans for barns for conversion. They will also guide you through the planning process to ensure all the necessary permissions are in place.

It’s at this point that the JMW team can become fully involved. We offer a turnkey service, personally carrying out your barn conversion from start to finish. We handle every stage of the project, from clearing the site, to the building work, to engaging trades. We’ll fit the bathrooms and kitchens, fully decorate to a superior standard and professionally clean the building and site from top to bottom, before we hand you the keys. We can even landscape the grounds for you.

Do I need planning for my barn conversion?

For a barn conversion, you will almost certainly need planning permission. If you have yet to engage the services of an architect, we can introduce you to one of our trusted associates.

Once you have your planning permission in place, we would be happy to then discuss handling your barn conversion project.

Barn Conversions for business

Not all barns for conversion will be used as homes. At JMW, we are able to convert barns into accommodation for business or even for storage.

Among our clients was a home owner who had a dilapidated barn he wanted converting for business use, to run a floristry enterprise. We gutted the building, renovating throughout and introducing larger windows and doors to increase ventilation for the flowers. We also landscaped the grounds.

At another site, we converted space above a stable block into office accommodation and a studio. We introduced dormer windows to increase natural light, and we even restored the timber-framed bell tower on top of the barn.

Why not talk to us today about a barn conversion for your business.
